Movie: Street Fighter: Assassin’s Fist

“Street Fighter: Assassin’s Fist is a live-action web series, TV series and feature film in the martial arts film genre developed by director, fight choreographer, writer, actor and martial artist Joey Ansah; actor, writer and martial artist Christian Howard and Academy Award-nominated film producer, Jacqueline Quella.” – Wikipedia

So, just the other day I watched the movie Street Fighter: Assassin’s Fist and I have to say that it was really good, there were things that were true to the games and the characters in the movie are really similar to the characters in the game.
The story is about Ryu and Ken, growing up and learning all there is to learn to fight. The effects are really nice and the movie is overall beautifully done. I won’t spoil the movie so I’ll just stop here. It is really worth watching, so go and do it now.

  1. Ahh Assassin’s Fist, I fully agree with you that this is a really nice film. Well worth watching, even if you haven’t played much Street Fighter.

Personally I have played some so it was fun to see the portraying of the “main” characters and thankfully it did not repeat the failure of the 1994 Street Fighter film or even worse the 2009 one. 😉

Did you play Street Fighter at any point?

Will you do more reviews of games gone into film?

  2. Ahhh Street Fighter. I remember playing this gem years back on the ol’ Sega, and still kicks-ass today! Even though Mortal Kombat holds the gory title, this game definitely is the fighting champ over it. All the characters are awesome! (And who can dislike Chun-LI? Those thighs.)

I didn’t really look too much into these types of films, because generally they kinda ruin it for me. Directors don’t put enough effort in to redeem the popularity of the Series, or the Actors don’t take it seriously enough with silly storylines. However, I do trust your reviews and I will give this a shot! You haven’t been wrong thus far! 🙂

    – Quick question though, in your opinion do you think it will make a good TV series? Or will just be a load of brawls?

    1. Yes, I am exactly the same and this movie surprised me.

I don’t know how it would be in a TV series. I think this movie is a lot of episodes placed together, so if it is, it would be awesome, I suppose.

      1. Yeah, it’s nice when a movie like this comes out to show there is still some hope left for video game film adaptations!

Ahh okay, that’s cool! 🙂 And yeah, Street Fighter has enough characters to be able to flesh out some story hopefully. (Bring in a Chun-Li! :-P)

        – Would you put your faith into a hopeful future for video game movies? Or do you feel this is just a one off?
